Tell us a little bit about your business and start of your amazon journey in Germany.

RheinNatur focuses on producing pure, natural food ingredients and dietary supplements. Our journey began four years ago on Amazon's German marketplace, and we’ve steadily grown ever since. Breaking into the German market was a key milestone, offering us invaluable experience and insights into the world of e-commerce. As we expanded, it felt natural to extend our reach across Europe, bringing our products to a wider audience. Entering the UK was an exciting achievement, filled with the promise of new opportunities and challenges that we were eager to tackle.

What inspired you to expand to the United Kingdom with Amazon?

The success of our brand in Germany was a powerful driving force, encouraging us to pursue ambitious expansion goals. There’s nothing more inspiring to us than the chance to serve our loyal customers not just in Germany, but throughout Europe, bringing our products to a wider audience.

Two years after our successful debut on Amazon’s German marketplace, we discovered Amazon’s Expansion Programme. We jumped at the chance to extend our business into the UK. The opportunity to grow our brand and explore new markets energised us and gave us the confidence to take this exciting leap forward.
Expanding into Europe was a logical progression for us. Entering the UK was an exciting milestone that felt fantastic!

How did you navigate UK specific requirements and regulations?

The requirements and regulations in the UK demanded significant preparation and research. There were many details to consider, especially when it came to tax and legal matters. The support from our Amazon account manager was a huge advantage, as it helped us clear up uncertainties and take the right steps. This support eased our worries about making mistakes and gave us the confidence to approach the market entry with assurance.

How did you manage the Tax and VAT setup? Did you use VAT services on Amazon or seek third-party support?

We have used Amazon's customs clearance services, which we were very satisfied with. While there was some bureaucratic work involved, including a visit to the notary, the support from Amazon was incredibly helpful and straightforward. The entire process was made much easier thanks to the services they provided. Without this support, we never could have managed it on our own.

How did you navigate product-specific UK requirements and regulations?

We were lucky to receive personalised support from Amazon, which guided us through the entire process of navigating the UK-specific requirements. This support was particularly valuable, as it also helped us with shipment registration. Thanks to this hands-on assistance, we were able to ensure our products met all the necessary regulations. We are very grateful for this help, as it not only supported our compliance but also opened up new opportunities in the UK.

How does your supply-chain / inbound logistics setup look like?

Our inbound logistics are highly complex, as we manage the entire filling process within our own production facilities. The journey begins with product development, where new ideas are conceived. This involves multiple rounds of testing and blind tastings until we identify the finest raw materials and optimal recipes. Our quality management team ensures that suppliers meet our stringent quality standards, both during sourcing and upon receipt of goods. In production planning, we meticulously coordinate to ensure that all required raw materials and packaging components are available on schedule. Production serves as the core of RheinNatur. Every pouch is personally handled by at least one of our team members before it is dispatched to customers worldwide. Our logistics objective is to maintain consistent availability of all RheinNatur products on Amazon at all times.

Are you using Customs Clearance and Shipping Solutions on Amazon to inbound to the UK?

Yes, for the UK, we use Amazon's Shipping and Customs service, which helps us manage the import processes. This service has significantly simplified the entire shipping and customs clearance. Additionally, we plan to switch to Amazon's Pan-European FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) storage in the near future to further optimise our logistics and increase efficiency.

What is your advertising and brand strategy? What are the key tools you rely on?

Our advertising and marketing strategy focuses on the quality and uniqueness of our products, most of which are organic-certified and particularly suitable for athletes, as well as for low-carb and keto diets. We aim to highlight the high quality and benefits of our products to consumers, as this is the key factor in their purchasing decisions.

Several of our bestsellers have earned the "Amazon's Choice" title for three consecutive years, which has further boosted trust with our customers.

A key factor in RheinNatur's success is our own production, which allows us to maintain consistently high stock levels and rarely run out of stock. This production reliability enables us to consistently offer our customers dependable, high-quality products, strengthening our brand loyalty.
At RheinNatur, we’re thrilled about the opportunities to reach new customers. It’s not a question of advertising budget, but of entrepreneurship and hard work. That’s exactly what we’re all about!

Do you see a significant difference between customers in the UK compared to the European Union?

We haven’t noticed any significant difference between our European and UK customers. The reactions and behaviors of our customers are similar. What’s especially rewarding is that we’ve found our customers in the UK respond just as positively and warmly to our products as they do in other European countries.

How do you decide about what selection to offer in the UK?

When selecting the products we wanted to offer in the UK, we worked closely with our Amazon contact to identify the most suitable items. We decided to give all products a chance, except for two items that only have German labels. All other products qualify, as we provide labels in five different languages, including English. This approach ensures that our products are well-prepared for the UK and meet the necessary requirements.

How long did it take to become profitable in the UK? Can you share any key learnings?

On Amazon, a seller must be prepared to play the long game. There are no shortcuts, and no one becomes a self-made millionaire overnight. It takes time to build a brand, gather reviews, and gain customer trust. Typically, it takes around six months for a new product to reach its sales potential. Profitability may take a bit longer to materialise. An important lesson along the way has been that patience and continuous optimisation are key to securing long-term success.

What are your final words and advice for Selling Partners starting the UK expansion?

My final piece of advice for any sellers looking to expand into the UK: Don’t hesitate! Although it may seem complicated at first, the effort is definitely worth it. There is plenty of support available. Be patient, stay persistent, and keep trying until it works. Success comes through hard work!
